A precious Psalm comes to mind as we look back at our lives and ministry during October: They shall eagerly utter the memory of Your abundant goodness and will shout joyfully of Your righteousness. Yes, it seemed October brought our way multiple events pointing us to His abundant goodness that boosted even more our momentum post pandemic! Sandwiched between festive anniversaries for the local assembly and Hogar de Esperanza, we kept up our dose of traveling to the interior, this time to the village of Santa Rosa de Curvan, a mango producing community enclaved in the northern coast, seven hours northeast from our home.

One can tell believers are eager to get into the Word when they don’t want you to stop teaching even after long sessions. That’s how it was with these saints. They made us feel as if we were pouring water into a plant that had been deprived of the precious liquid for so long. Four assemblies got together and invited us to guide them through key issues they are facing in their communities that included the prevalent practice of common law marriage. How neat it was to see them agree with Scripture as we carried them through a quick survey of covenant marriage and its implications to our practical living. There were many questions that ensued, some hard (and heart breaking) to give a prompt solution to. But we pray to the Lord to work in each of those cases. Please remember them in your prayers. There is more news of our time there, like the baptisms, the open-air service, and the load of mangoes they generously gave us to take back home. Visit our gallery of pictures and see them!

Back in Trujillo, the assembly was celebrating its 33rd anniversary and shortly after that Hogar de Esperanza celebrated its 21st. Both ministries have filled our lives with joy and much gratitude. Both can fill volumes underscoring the goodness of our great God. We particularly came across some significant numbers from Hogar de Esperanza. In 21 years, 209 children were housed and loved with the love of Christ Jesus, 57 were adopted to three different continents in the world, 3 were just adopted this year, and 16 are currently living in the children’s home. We give thanks to the Lord for having placed the vision on His children to open this home. It was a treat to get a greeting from the founder all the way from Kansas, who sent his love and prayers for the children and our staff.

Thank you for praying for our Abigail going to school in Lancaster, PA. We appreciated your input and recommendations to help her cope with side effects from her concussion. She recently shared with us that after prayer and guidance from others she has declared a major, drum roll please … she will be majoring in Intercultural Studies with a concentration in TESOL (Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages). We are thankful that she can be more focused on this field from here on!

Prayer & Praise

-       The church building was completed in Solterito! After setting the foundation and the columns during our time in September, believers persevered and completed the walls, the roofing, and the floors. They are already meeting in their new facility. Praise the Lord!

-       On November 2nd we paused to thank the Lord for two decades since we arrived to serve in this region through the assembly here in Trujillo.

-       We are asking for direction and provision for a salary raise for the staff at Hogar de Esperanza. Rising cost of living makes it necessary we implement this very soon.

-       One of the newcomers to our home bible study got diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She got her pancreas removed, her stomach and her duodenum. She is holding on to life and seems to be doing well with her treatment. Please pray for her and her husband to find comfort and hope in the Lord.

-       Peru’s volatile and yet stable political situation: The current president has a very minimal approval rating approaching the single digits. You can read a more in-depth assessment clicking here

-       Our yearly Christian leadership training is fast approaching. Our dates have been selected: January 9th-20th. Please pray for those who are being requested to teach and for the students. We are aiming to reduce the cost for the event, though it’s becoming difficult to do so as groceries have gone up significantly across the nation.

-       November is missions’ emphasis month! Besides praying each day for one of the workers, we have several activities aimed to collect gifts for the national workers in Peru.

Coming up

-       Nov. 18-20. Gathering of churches in Chonta Alta, the highlands of northern Peru. We are requested to speak on the basic responsibilities of elders and the church tackling current events.

-       Nov. 24-28. We have a small team going to Pataz, also in the mountains.

With much love and gratitude in Jesus’ name!

Pablo & Sarah CT
