Steve was commended to serve with Operation Mobilization in 1977. He first went to Iran, where he met his wife Kathi. After getting married, they were commended together in 1981 to serve with OM, first among Afghan refugees in Pakistan for 18 years, and then, inside of Afghanistan itself for seven years. They later moved to Switzerland to care for Kathi’s mother while also ministering to the growing number of Afghan and Iranian Christians within the country. After Kathi's mother's passing, they moved to Turkey to mentor and coach new OM teams. In 2022, they moved back to the Bay Area of California to minister among the growing number of Afghan refugees being resettled near their commending assembly. Steve and Kathi have two children and three grandsons.
